LUCEM was founded in 2007 as a start-up of RWTH Aachen University. The company is active worldwide. It develops and supplies tailor-made solutions manufactured with light transmitting concrete.
Dr. Andreas Roye is the dedicated founder of LUCEM! Since 2007 he holds a Master and PhD degree from the RWTH Aachen University. He founded his own company right after graduation to design the world with breathtaking lighting solutions.
Today, 2020, LUCEM offers a complete package for the installation of high quality indoor and outdoor lighting. We are passionate about providing first class full service solutions and unique lighting design combined with concrete for the world.
Our light-transmitting concrete is based on the interaction of its three main components - concrete, fibres and light. The principle: special glass fibres are incorporated into the concrete. When light, artificial or natural, falls on them, it is guided through the concrete, causing it to glow.
Sounds simple, but it takes a delicate touch to achieve the right result in a manual production process. This is because the fibres need to be carefully laid in the concrete by hand - either layer by layer or individually and well dispersed, depending on the end product.
Factors such as distribution, flow velocity and ambient temperature influence the result anew each time, but always make our translucent concrete truly unique!
